Guergis : A Most Beautiful Scapegoat

Her boss Stephen Harper tossed her out of cabinet on her ear, out of the caucus, and called the cops on her for undisclosed “criminal allegations.”

That’s serious stuff. And he still hasn’t come out with a shred of evidence.

The final blow came last week. Conservative Party HQ took away her Conservative nomination for the next election. Ouch! It came just after she’d been reconfirmed as their candidate by her Simcoe-Grey riding association.

The Mounties are silent about the Guergis investigation. No press release. Hey, she’s not Ralph Goodale.

The lady Guergis, the one time beauty Queen of Huronia, insists she’s done nothing wrong. So why won’t somebody tell her what they’ve got against her. It better be something more than gossip from a blowhard private eye.

The Mounties are run by Harper’s old security chief, Bill Elliott. He doesn’t talk any more than Harper does.

Guergis is yesterday’s minister. Gone! Dead!

They have already picked a “Miss Next.” She’s a famous Toronto orthopaedic surgeon specializing at the Sick Kids hospital, Dr. Kellie Leitch.

Hey! A kids’ doctor? We need all we can get. Conservative backbenchers, on the other hand, are a dime a dozen. Ask Harper. At least the ones who can keep their mouths shut.

It’s a sad story. Beautiful, popular minister with attitude gets dumped for unknown reasons said to be result of “criminal allegations” by unknown informants.

So what could she have done?

Her and hubby Rahim Jaffer are the “Bonnie and Clyde” of Huronia, but surely that’s a joke.

They don’t rob banks! And they have NOT been named in some bank and real estate fraud out West. That’s somebody else.

Guergis vows she will defend herself, and run again for the party.

But how to do that, when when it’s Stephen Harper who signs nomination papers. He is not lifting his pen for her right now.

Maybe Guergis was dumped for a hissy fit she threw at Charlottetown Airport in February or maybe because she had her aides and family writing letters to the editors about what a great lady she is, neglecting to mention their link to her.

Or maybe because hubby had cocaine in his coat pocket on his way home last September.

Harper must have a reason – a good one.

Maybe she was dumped for making a poor marital choice, but since when is that a federal offence? And that is hardly “criminal.” If it was, there would be a lot of people in jail.

There’s a growing feeling that somebody better come up soon with some hard evidence to counter the growing feeling that the lady has been shafted.

And it wasn’t in Huronia.
