The students of Miss Ruffo’s Grade 2-3 class at Sacred Heart Catholic School are part of an international experiment which tracks monarch butterflies’ migration from Canada to Mexico. In association with the University of Kansas, the students act as keepers to the eggs—which are found on milkweed plants in the area—until the they hatch. They are tagged individually with a tiny identifying sticker, and if caught by workers in Mexico, will be traced back to the students at Sacred Heart.
